Nickelodeon Announces Avatar Studios and their Theatrical Animated Film

Nickelodeon and Paramount recently announced the launch of Avatar Studios, a studio designed to create more animated content for the “Avatar: The last Airbender” franchise. Their first project will be an animated theatrical movie that is set to start production this year. The original creators of the show, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, will be the chief creative officers for the studio.

Since the re-release of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and the sequel series, “The Legend of Korra” on Netflix last year, the popularity of the show has skyrocketed sparking a new passion for the show in Micheal DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

The original series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was released from 2005 to 2008. The four nations of the world, the Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, Air Nomads, and Northern and Southern Water Tribes, are divided after the fire nation attacked. Aang, the last airbender, and Avatar, the only person able to master all four elements, rise up to end the war and bring peace to the world.

“The Legend of Korra” is the sequel series that ran from 2012 to 2014. The series followed the new Avatar, Korra. After years of isolated training, Korra must keep the world at peace following the events of Aang’s life. Challenged with the feuds between benders and non-benders, the spirits, and much more, Korra must retain the peace that Aang left behind.
