Earlier this week, a snowy owl was spotted perched near Harrison Bay, on top of a house. Normally this bird is only spotted near the Arctic or the Northern United States. This bird caused a stir in the bird and photography communities as people from across Tennessee travelled to see the bird in person. For the people who travelled to see the bird, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
While snowy owls usually do stay in the Arctic or the Northern United States, sometimes their migrations can make them travel as far as Texas or Florida. When this occurs it is called “irruptive years”.
